of Eccentric Inspiration.

"I want to be a living work of art"-Marchesa Luisa Casati
With an adoration for fashion and femininity, Georgina and Edward Chapman created Marchesa, the fanciful line inspired by the Italian heiress, Luisa Casati. A 20th century femme fatale, Casati captivated worlds of fashion, culture, literature, and art through her ostentatious style. I was first introduced to Casati in the Metropolitan Museum of Art: I stood before her breathtaking, whimsical portrait commissioned by Giovani Boldini. It was her aim to capture the immortality of her beauty and served as the inspiration for artists,  such as Dali and Boldini. While on the surface this sentiment may seem vain, her quest of preservation was routed in the inner sense of beauty. Her confidence, charisma, and character astonished many, but inspired even more. She is the foundational inspiration for the Marchesa line and the coveted Cartier panther style. Casati serves as an incredible role model because she pushed the boundaries for women; she believed in the beauty of being a female, in the rewards of being dynamic, in the uniqueness of being different, and in the advantages of gracious patronage. Decades later and she still serves as an inspiration for women such as myself.
